Uric Acid Test

The Uric Acid Test, also known as the Serum Urate Test, measures the level of uric acid in your blood. Uric acid is a waste product created when the body breaks down purines, which are substances found in certain foods and drinks. Normally, uric acid is dissolved in the blood, filtered by the kidneys, and excreted through urine. However, if the body produces too much uric acid or the kidneys do not filter it properly, it can accumulate, leading to conditions such as gout or kidney stones. This test is typically prescribed to monitor uric acid levels in individuals undergoing treatments like chemotherapy or radiation therapy or to diagnose conditions related to elevated uric acid, such as gout or recurrent kidney stones.
